Subject: Open Letter to BUHS Class 1978
=============================================
Dear Batch mates,
Greetings of Peace!
This is the first time I am writing an open letter to you my dear batchmates. I will try my best to be very prudent and direct since I am not much of a writer. First, I must admit that I really got frustrated the way things are going with our batch. All the bickering, cold shoulder treatment and the sowing of disunity by some of our batchmates, among other things, that are not even worth mentioning should be put behind us. Well, everything that happens in our batch is just but normal occurrence in every organization in the real sense of the word. But unfortunately some of these so-called normal occurrences exceed the limits of our tolerance.
I took on the position of president sometime in the middle of last year, when the class officers agreed to accept the resignation of Bro. Demetrio “Collie” Baldon. Since I assumed the presidency I collaterally accepted the duties and responsibilities attached to the position. My paramount goal is to unite the entire batch. To achieve this we need to move forward and take concrete steps. This is supposed to be a collective endeavour of the batch. I mean, I cannot do it by myself, even with the help of the other officers. As members of BUHS Class 1978 we all need to get involved in this undertaking and participate in whatever capacity we choose.
Being the president of Batch ‘78 is both a challenge and a privilege. Honestly, I find it scary most of the time. It really takes so much guts to lead a batch full of talented, not to mention the assertive and the most opinionated men and women that I have to contend with. As president of this batch I strongly feel that we need to join our hands together now and pool our talents and resources to allow us to focus more on the direction that we want to take. We were able to do these before and I see no reason why we cannot do the same this time.
Year 2008 will be our 30th alumni homecoming, a once in a lifetime event in our lives! This will only happen once and we need to make the best of it. We will not succeed in gathering ourselves together as one batch if we still harbour these animosities and ill feelings towards some of our batchmates. We need to create the atmosphere of peace and joy in keeping with the sprit of the Yuletide season.
I must admit that the momentum died down and the excitement simmered down, but I believe the spirit of oneness is still present. Perhaps, the greatest challenge for us now is to come together as one batch with the right spirit and posture so that we will be able to make this homecoming another worth remembering and memorable reunion. Probably by this time also, we can already work together in crafting our own vision.
What is to be done?
We need to be more creative in the approach of inviting our batchmates in this reunion. Aside of course from our formal invitation which would come out later, we need first to re-establish, reconnect and renew our ties with our classmates. We should make use of the technology at hand to maximize reach and connectivity. As we all know the success of every reunion can be measured by the enormity of its attendance. As I have said, this reunion is our reunion and therefore its success must be everybody’s concern.
Here are some basic pragmatic steps that we can start off in our ground work for the coming reunion:
1. Please open your cellphone, browse the names of our batchmates in your directory/phonebook. A simple greeting of good morning/afternoon/evening, would perk up and stir curiosity. Through this, we hope to rekindle the bond of friendship.
2. Try to remember at least 5 of your classmates that you haven’t seen for the last 5 years, please make extra effort to find them through friends, new acquaintances etc, and let this be our conviction to make this event an avenue to once again revive the good old high school days.
3. Send all names including contact numbers of these batchmates whom you had made contact with to the following:
Magelende “Malen/Lindy” C. Llona
Cellphone: 0917 5530938
Email: magelende@yahoo.com
Augusto “Jun” Marquez Jr.
Cellphone: 0920 9105647
Email: jun.marquez@gmail.com
Maritess “Tess” Yanga-Salvacion
Cellphone: 0927 9295348
Email: mysalvacion06@yahoo.com.ph
4. Opps! As a pre reunion activity we will have our Christmas Party this December 30, 2007, Sunday 6:00 in the evening at Brents Seafood, Steak and BBQ Grill at Airport Road Washington Drive, Legazpi City. Please attend this gathering dubbed as “Stay Connected Sa Batch 78” (Unlimited Tayo). No Registration Fee.
5. Kindly spread the news of our 30th Alumni Homecoming on March 23, 2008, that’s Easter Sunday from 1:30 PM till midnight. Please block off this date. Venue to be announced later.
6. Please add more ideas on how to increase our attendance in the forthcoming reunion. I know we can really make this 30th Alumni Homecoming worth remembering. Roll our sleeves and let’s all buckle down to work.
Mabuhay ang Batch 78. God Bless us All.
Your Batchmate,
CATOY APIN
