Dear Colleagues,
During our 30th Alumni Homecoming on 23 March 2008, we found out with shock and disbelief that the tables and chairs still being used by the students in the library were donated by us when we were in 4th year high school. We also found out that a lot of books are very old and worn out.
Through the efforts of BUHS Batch ’78, Ms. Carina R. Altavano, Unit Head of Bicol University Integrated Laboratory School High School Department (BUCEIL-HS) wrote to the Librarian of Asian Development Bank (ADB) on 21 April 2008. Ms. Altavano requested the ADB Library for assistance in improving the reading center/library of BUCEIL-HS through reading materials to encourage students to read and learn more.
Unfortunately, the ADB library does not have books for donation at the moment and the letter was kept on file for consideration in ADB’s future donation program. A book drive was then held in ADB for high school books and reference materials for donation to BUCEIL-HS.
The first batch of donations (8 boxes of high school books and reading materials from ADB staff and 2 boxes of ADB publications from ADB's Philippines Country Office) were picked up at ADB on 28 May 2008. The turnover to BUCEIL-HS was held on 12 June 2008 by BUHS Batch '78. During the turnover, Batch ’78 also donated trash bins for use by the school.
See pictures below during the pick-up of donations from ADB's loading dock and turnover to BUCEIL-HS library; and a picture of the trash bins.
Hurrah to all of us and more power to the officers of BUHS Batch '78!!!!
