Statement issued during the class meeting with Bicol-based classmates at Kamboat Restaurant on 211900 March 2003
It is a pleasure to see all of you here today once again in this meeting at a particular period when we are all preparing for the Silver Anniversary Homecoming of our class on Black Saturday, 19 2003. I thank all of you for allocating a part of your precious time to attend this meeting, a deviation from your usual schedule of work and family. As such, as your presiding officer today and in order not to take much of your time, I intend to make this meeting as brief as possible, presenting for discussion those substantial issues that have direct relationship to make the homecoming a very successful and meaningful one.
The agenda prepared today are the following:
I. Update on the Reunion
II. Report on the Finances
III. Resolution of Problem Areas
I will report on the preparations made in Manila, covering those accomplished made by our classmates who are based there and those abroad.
I. Update on the Reunion
Attendees
To date there are a total of 14 Manila-based classmates who are confirmed to attend, excluding new recruits as Manny Navera, Jo Salameño, Mariel Marbella and Helen Romero. From among the foreign-based, there 3 who confirmed to come and they are the couple Francisco and Evelyn Almayda, and Ching Francia-Ho, Rosaldo Iglesia, who is now based in Sydney, Australia but who have earlier signified his intention to attend, retracted his plan of homecoming due to a sudden conflict in commitment in the US during the same period that will be holding the reunion. But just the same, he has sent his full support and financial contribution to the class.
Pledges and other Preparations
As previously reported, we received the following pledges:
• Kenny Aquino and Duls Dumagco - 100 Coffee mugs with printings of the 25th Silver Anniversary Reunion
• Lito Mirafuentes - 100 Caps with printings of the 25th Silver Anniversary Reunion
• Frances Fausto - 100 t-shirts with paintings of the Silver Anniversary Reunion
• Pot Luck and Contribution worth P19,000 as Door Prizes for raffle, and as prizes for the Parlor Games
• Gallery of Old Class Pictures and Collage
• Video Presentation as Tribute to the BUHS Class 1978
• Donation to BUHS - P19,000-worth of reference and reading materials published by TESDA
• Souvenir Program
The Souvenir Program remains to be the principal activity from where the financing of other preparations of the reunion will be sourced. Although, we, the Manila-based, are now taking charge of it, still we are entertaining advertisements from the Bicol-based like those from Jac Jacob and Marlyn-Jadie Paje. We still have to receive remittances from Catoy Apin who signified ahead to take the inner back page of the Souvenir Program.
The laying out of the Program is now in full force, with Lindy Llona and the couple, Leelin Llaguno-Flora and Ralph Flora spearheading the preparations. Will be printed on the first few pages of the Souvenir Program is the message from the Secretary of the National Defense. Likewise it is very appropriate to get the inspirational messages of prominent officials of the Bicol Region like the Governor, City Mayor and the BU president. Ms. Amy Ramirez-Bello is requested to follow-up their messages. In the same token, I am reminding those classmates who were tasked previously to scribble some literary write-ups for publication to the Souvenir Programs. They are Marlyn Jadie, Amy Ramirez-Bello. For those who would still want to contribute, you can submit them by fax to Lindy Llona not later than the end of next week.
II. Financial Report
Yesterday, a total of P93,000 worth of those who have paid in advertisements was reported and is still increasing. There are still remittances we expect to receive since, unfortunately, this period falls in a time when the country’s national budget has just been newly approved about 2 weeks ago, and will take sometime for the Department of Budget and Management for filter it down to the receiving agencies of the government. Hopefully, we will receive all payment by next week.
Likewise, there is now a total of P11,000 remittances from foreign-based, a report of Lindy Llona from the Class Treasurer, Ofel Gregorio-Miraflor, and we are expecting same remittances to shore up during the next week.
III. Resolution of Problem Areas
It was reported to me in Manila that during the recent meetings the Bicol-based had, there were some concerns pointed out.
