This was how the elections were conducted for the information of those who did not attend. The Chair of the Election Committee was our classmate who is a lawyer, Atty. Eva Ramirez-Segui. Members were Marlyn Jadie-Paje and Tess Bermido-Serina. The current constitution indicates that the body will elect 10 representatives at large and these 10 will elect among themselves who will be the officers and the members of the Board of Trustees. Eva brought to the attention of the body that the current by-laws do not indicate the manner of election, hence the body can decide on the matter.
There was intense discussion on whether it should be an open nomination where the floor will nominate from the attendees or whether each class will elect a representative from among those present in their class. The final options were (i) the body to vote 5 officers in an open nomination with 10 members of the Board of Trustees endorsed by each class (1 from each section) or (ii) 10 representatives, each one elected openly by members of the section present as their section's representative.
Since option #1 is an amendment to the by-laws, the body was asked to vote first if agreeable to change the by-laws to accommodate option #1 or retain the current provision. By majority vote, the body decided not to amend. Also, by majority vote, the body selected option #2 hence effectively leaving the decision to the representatives to elect among them who will be the officers and members of the Board of Trustees. The body also left to the discretion of the elected officers the tenure of office as the by-laws indicate only one year which is very short and our reunion of every 5 years is thought too long by the body.
The representatives had a meeting inside the library and voted to office the following:
Board of Trustees for 2008-2011
Tess Yanga-Salvacion – President (Representative of IV-B)
Dr. Jack Ante – Vice President (Representative of IV-F)
Tuyoy Almeda – Secretary (Representative of IV-A)
Jo Molo-Apuyan – Treasurer (Representative of IV-G)
Elvie Buemia-Macasinag – Business Manager (Representative of IV-C)
Susan Ojano – Auditor (Representative of IV-D)
Manny Navera – PRO (Representative of IV-E)
Board Members:
Rey Benedict Rico (Representative of IV-H)
Cristy Ariola-Yason (Representative of IV-J)
Benjie Quintano (Representative of IV-I)
The officers also decided that the tenure of office will be 3 years, hence we are now going to have a reunion every 3 years instead of 5.
